PRESS RELEASE / PLANET EARTH (April, 2020) — Social media presence Eco-Friendly Beer Drinker (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) has launched a website to highlight environmental sustainability in the production and consumption of craft beer. The launch coincides with Earth Month 2020, and preludes what this year will be the 50th anniversary of Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22. Marrying two passions, nature and independent beer, its goal is to be an international resource for environmental news, trends, and notable developments regarding both the brewing industry and the culture of its consumers. Visitors will find a stream of eco-related beer news and press releases on the site, as well as original content in the form of educational infographics and insightful featured blog posts.

At a time when industry and consumers worldwide are searching for ways to address climate crisis and related environmental issues impacting the planet and its inhabitants, Eco-Friendly Beer Drinker hopes to inspire discussion and highlight best practices within the craft beer community. Among the key industry issues are energy efficiency and renewable energy, water conservation and wastewater treatment, sourcing of ingredients grown with sustainable agricultural practices, repurposing spent grain and decreasing other common brewery waste, as well as preferred packaging and distribution models for retail sales of beer. From the consumer behavior perspective, analyzing consumption and purchasing preferences and what influences they have on beer producers is an important consideration. As is the impact breweries can make with charitable and community giving programs, fair employee compensation and workplace diversity, and social media’s power for good within the craft beer culture.

To help raise awareness, and as validation of his commitment, Eco-Friendly Beer Drinker has vowed to create zero craft beer waste for all of 2020. That means his trash and recycling bins will remain empty all year. Instead, he’ll make more visits to brewery taprooms (via bike or public transportation as often as possible) to drink draught offerings, and he’ll be going back to the growler for any takeaway beer purchases. Follow his journey on social media at #EcofriendlyBeerDrinker.

Breweries and associated companies operating in the industry, as well as press, bloggers, podcasters, and consumers, can submit press releases, news stories, and general inquiries to ecofriendlybeerdrinker@gmail.com or leave a message in the “submit a comment” section below.
